New Canaan Community Nursery School is excited to announce our plans for an expansion project to take place during the summer months of 2010.

After a two-year planning process, the school recently received the necessary town approvals in order to break ground in May 2010. The creative team behind the renovation design is Maryann Thompson Architects, an award-winning firm based in Cambridge, Massachusets.

The 2010 renovation will feature:

    • state of the art classrooms designed with form and function in mind
    • sustainable design principles, such as rainwater collection, water conservation plumbing fixtures, low VOC, renewable and recycled materials
    • a better sense of connection to the surrounding landscape, with new doors and a wall of windows to the park
    • more natural daylighting in all of the classrooms, proven to enhance the learning environment
    • new high security system and formal clarified entry way
    • new administrative offices and full working kitchen
    • new covered drop off and play area for rainy days

In an effort to raise funds for the renovation project, the school has launched a "Buy A Brick" campaign. The new entrance will be marked by a brick path and donors can buy an inscribed brick for this new pathway. All bricks are 4x8 inches and can accommodate a maximum of 3 lines and 16 characters per line.   Consider purchasing a brick, whether to pay tribute to a cherished teacher, print your child's name or show that your local business supports New Canaan Community Nursery School. For more information on how you can purchase a brick, or support the renovation, please call (203) 966-3010 or email nccnsbricks@gmail.com.

This school is a magic place, we are creating tomorrow.
